Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
The first selection by the Montreal Canadiens at the 1979 NHL Entry Draft – chosen ahead of future Habs stars drafted that season including Mats Näslund and Guy Carbonneau, Gaston Gingras enjoyed a pair of separate stints with the Canadiens spread over parts of seven seasons, with a Stanley Cup championship won in 1986. This Canadiens jersey was worn by the Témiscaming native in the early-1980s, circa 1980-82. A partially-detached Maska label is affixed to the collar along with a laundering tag with “52” sizing, with an embroidered Maska crest over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with the iconic CH team crest constructed entirely of layered tackle twill, “2” appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material, with the original nameplate removed and the garter-style fight strap moved. Obtained directly from the Montreal Canadiens, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Great game-use is exhibited on the garment, with stick marks over the front including the team crest, along with additional scuffs, scrapes and wear to the material throughout, with a hole over the lower band. There is some puckering and staining to the reverse number, with additional stains visible near the team crest. Team repairs are also abundant, with examples over the front (7), reverse (7) and sleeves (48).
