Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
The first MLB franchise to take up residency outside of the United States, the Montreal Expos joined the league as an expansion club along with San Diego in 1968, fielding their first nine the following summer. This lot contains a collection of 18 bats used by Expos players, along with a pair of signed game-issued bats. We have models from Louisville, Cooper, Worth, Rawlings and others, with most having the players name over the barrel and number written over the knob, with varying degrees of game use exhibited within the collection. We should also note that a number of bats would have been used with other clubs. Highlights include bats used by Andres Galarraga (Cooper model, cracked handle, with tape added most likely to cover the crack), Mark Grudzielanek (Rawlings model, signed over the barrel) and Chris Speier (Adirondack model, cracked handle).
The additional bats in the collection include Dan Driessen (Louisville model, cracked and repaired handle), Brad Fullmer (Louisville model, cracked and repaired handle), Tom Hutton (Louisville model, cork handle), Greg Colbrunn (Louisville model, heavy pine tar/Mota stick and good game use), Wil Cordero (Louisville model, used with Pittsburgh), Andy Tracy (Louisville model, with large section of barrel missing), Terry Jones (Louisville model, cracked handle), John Vanderwal (Rawlings model, cracked handle), Shane Andrews (Louisville model, heavy pine tar/Mota stick), Doug Flynn (Louisville model, taped handle), Bobby Ramos (Louisville model, taped handle, most likely a repair), Chris Widger (Rawlings model, taped handle with light pine tar), Wallace Johnson (Cooper model, with tape repaired handle), Mike Vail (Louisville model, spiral tape pattern with cracked handle) and Trace Coquillette (Rawlings model, signed by 15 over the barrel). The two game-issued bats include a Worth model issued to Hubie Brooks (signed in silver over the barrel, with most of the signature rubbed away) and a Louisville model issued to Jerry White (signed over the barrel but faded, with a few bat rack marks visible).
