Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
One of the early game’s biggest stars, making his debut on the hockey scene during the final years of the 19th century in Winnipeg, Jack Marshall would raise Lord Stanley’s hardware for the first time in 1901 with the Victoria, settling back in his home province of Quebec for additional championship success with Montreal’s “winged wheelers” and Wanderers. Marshall would be a part of six Stanley Cup championships throughout his legendary career, the first player in history to do so. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a rare and highly desirable letter signed by the 1965 HOF inductee. At approx 8” x 10” and dated “Apr 24/53”, the single fold-over sheet sports handwritten text on two “pages” (no text is back-to-back), with Marshall signing in dark ink. A set of initials have also been added after a postscript. Marshall passed at 88 more than a half century ago, in 1965.
The letter exhibits just light toning along with a single horizontal fold line, with holes punched along the top section to facilitate binder insertion.
