Captained by Hap Day and supported by Charlie Conacher’s team-leading 34 goals, the Toronto Maple Leafs would complete the 1931-32 NHL season in third place overall, and would defeat the Black Hawks, Maroons and Rangers to claim just their third Stanley Cup championship. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a 1931-32 Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup champions team photo signed by legendary superstars Hap Day and Charlie Conacher. An Alexander Studio print, the glossy 8” x 10” pictures the full club in the traditional team pose including Conn Smythe and Dick Irvin, with Day signing over his image and Conacher adding his John Hancock along with a platitude over the upper left. Day would say goodbye in 1990 at age 88, while Conacher would leave us during our nation’s centennial at age 58.
With no issues for the signatures, there is a third heavily smudged and illegible autograph over the lower left, with this scripting likely removable by the winning bidder if so desired. The photo itself shows a number of small creases and wrinkles at corners, with a heavy surface line that runs vertically from the base to Smythe’s folded hands. A Turofsky stamp appears over the reverse, with the player’s names all handwritten. There is also a notation from Hamlyn stating that he received the photo back signed on “March 19, 1947”. Conacher and Day both received their HOF enshrinement in 1961.
