One of only three Detroit Red Wings to represent the club in over 1,500 games, Alex Delvecchio saw action solely with the Motor City squad throughout his HOF career, and served as the longest captain in Red Wings history after fellow HOF member Steve Yzerman. Fats – as he was affectionately known, secured a trio of Lady Byng trophies along with three Stanley Cup championships in just four seasons, and at the time of his retirement, Delvecchio ranked second all-time for games played, assists and points.
A rare Original Six survivor that witnessed action at Hockeytown’s famous Olympia, we have a vintage Red Wings captain’s jersey that was worn by superstar Alex Delvecchio during the late-1960s, and adding considerable desirability, the D-town relic has been photo-matched! A somewhat tattered and partially detached Olympic label from the supplier is affixed to the collar along with an illegible size tag, with the fabulous durene sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 48 (there is also a General Athletic laundering label affixed above the inside hem). Featuring the classic winged-wheel team crest with embroidered detailing – one of the most attractive and aesthetically pleasing designs in all of sports – Delvecchio’s trademark “10” appears over the sleeves and verso in single twill, with the captain’s “C” over the right breast in matching material. One of hockey’s all-time greatest uniforms, this utterly pleasing specimen donned by one of Motown’s absolute finest practitioners during the twilight of the revered Original Six era should elicit considerable attention.
Presenting wonderfully, all material remains soft and supple, with the red colouration retaining its vibrancy. Dark marks are present over the front and sleeves, with a few stains over the upper front, left shoulder and reverse. Team repairs are also present – testament to the jersey’s thorough use, with examples over the right (4) and left (3) sleeves. Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, Getty Image #56606759 (undated) has been matched to the embroidered details and irregularities on the team crest.
