Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Featuring three deceased HOFers who all factored-into the earlier days of our national sport, we have a trio of desirable autographs, with examples scripted by Leafs Legends Charlie Conacher and Ace Bailey, along with the sportsman and namesake who donated the Allan Cup, Sir Montagu Allan. The Conacher signature is a small approx. 1 ¼” x 4” pencil cut removed from a program, with the common “Chas”. The signature displays well with little fading, with a few fold lines present. Conacher received his HOF enshrinement in 1961, six years before his passing in 1967. The Bailey signature has been placed over a modern 7” x 9” black and white print (exposed), double-matted and framed to full dimensions of approx. 15” x 17 ½”. Appearing to be ballpoint, the signature remains bold, with no issues. Joining the HOF in 1975, Bailey would pass at 88 years of age in 1992. Lastly, the Allan signature appears on an Acadia Coal Company stock certificate. Numbered “A387” and issued for 91 shares, the 1914 certificate has a 1921 cancelled stamp, with Allan signing in fountain pen, with some fading to the century-old example. The certificate itself remains in pleasing condition, with a few punched holes along with small areas of loss over the left side and upper right corner. Additional text is present over the reverse, along with 10 period stamps including four Canadian “War Tax” examples. Allan would pass in 1951, with enshrinement occurring in 1945.
