Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Two home run clouters extraordinaire combine here to form an ultra-inviting duo that recalls the early days of game-used jerseys and bat cards. It was history indeed when Upper Deck, in the late-1990s, purchased a Babe Ruth bat at auction and cut it up to include pieces on trading cards. What audacity! A reported 350 examples were produced, with the same number of similar Mickey Mantle cards being part of the company’s A Piece of History 500 Club insert set the same year; 1999. Tasteful and aesthetically-pleasing productions feature head and action shots of the two famous sluggers and their facsimile autographs joining their respective bat pieces on the front, while the backs include photos of the actual game-used bats and a line about their provenance. Recently slabbed by PSA, the Ruth card, (#PH), received a mark of NM 7, with Mantle’s “536HR” insert graded NM-MT 8. The two all-time greats combined to clout 1250 regular season home runs, close to what these two cards’ combined book value is these days
