Hailing from the personal collection of coaching legend Bob Johnson, we have a group of 9 high school and college yearbooks, along with Bob’s autographed high school varsity letters collection of four. First, we have two of Bob's personal yearbooks from Central High in Minneapolis. The 1947 copy has been autographed “Bob Johnson’s” inside the front cover and is signed throughout by dozens of school mates. Bob is pictured on school hockey team. The book from 1948 is signed “Bob Johnson” inside by Bob and all over by his classmates and again he is pictured within as a player on the school hockey team. Included in the group is Johnson's 1949 Augsburg College Minneapolis yearbook and it pictures Bob as a freshman and again on the school hockey team. Finally, we present a pair of Roosevelt High School yearbooks: the 1961 example pictures Bob as coach of school hockey team along and has the famous photo of him in class teaching History using a hockey stick as a pointer. The 1962 Roosevelt High School yearbook, portrays Bob with the hockey team and also as a member of the History faculty. The studious Robert N. Johnson also burned the midnight oil for two years at the University of North Dakota in 1950 and 1951 before moving on to the University of Minnesota to finish his post-secondary education in 1953 and 1954. He would play hockey for both schools and be coached by Hockey Hall-of-Fame great John Mariucci as a member of the Gophers. We have all four of Bob's personal university yearbooks. The University of North Dakota book lists Bob as a pledge for the Epsilon Kappa chapter while the example from 1951 pictures Bob in 5 photos within the 6-page Sioux hockey team section. The 1953 University of Minnesota Gophers yearbook portrays Bob within the 6-page section on the Gophers Hockey Team along with a photo of coach John Mariucci. Finally, Johnson's copy of the 1954 University of Minnesota yearbook includes a picture of Bob as a senior class member and twice more within its pages. All have been preserved in excellent-plus condition. Lastly, we have Bob's wine-colored Chenille varsity letters, presented for his participation on the hockey squad. A varsity letter (or monogram) is an award earned in the United States for excellence in school activities and signifies that its winner was a qualified varsity team member, awarded after a certain standard was met. Bob saved and cherished his school letters and each is proudly mounted onto a larger sheet of thick creamy paper stock. And amazingly, Bob made his mark across each display at the bottom. Three of the special signatures are written as "Bob Johnson" while a fourth is signed "Robert Johnson". Obtained in an estate sale of personal items that had been saved by Bob Johnson, a letter of provenance will accompany.
