Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Despite only competing for Team Canada once outside North America, Mark Messier won three Canada Cup championships, along with a silver at the 1996 World Cup. We have a stick used by Messier at the 1996 World Cup, team-signed by Team Canada. A Louisville Graphite model, “Messier” appears stamped over the stem of the inserted “lockjaw” blade, with the original black tape in place over the handle. After the tournament, white paint was applied by team trainers to accommodate the 22 Team Canada signatures over the front side of the blade and lower shaft near an affixed Hockey Canada decal including Messier, and fellow HOFers Gretzky, Sakic, Yzerman, Lindros, Coffey, Niedermayer, Shanahan and others.
The stick exhibits nice use, with marks over the blade and lower shaft, along with wear to the identifiers and graphics. The additional Team Canada signatures include Brodeur, Joseph, Ranford, Fleury, Odelein, Damphousse, Graves and others.
