Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

The Soviet Union claimed its seventh Olympic gold medal in Calgary in 1988. Russian forward Anatoli Semenov scored two goals and had six points during the eight-game tournament, and his 1988 Olympics CCCP game-worn jersey is photo-matched to a pair of photos that show the large square hole at the left elbow and the black marks in the same area. This red mesh CCCP uniform with the small Tackla logo applied to the right breast and yellow Tackla tagging with a size XL fly tag in the collar was obtained from the collection of a long-time Hockey Canada employee who acted as a liaison for visiting teams from the Soviet Union and Russia. Digital images showing the photo match will accompany the lot.
More game wear shows in black marks all over this historic international hockey game-worn jersey. The jersey, and most uniforms from that set, had the original nameplate removed (there is evidence of a former plate) following the Olympics and was re-purposed later in 1988-89 by the Second National Team (sometimes called the Olympic Team) at tournaments in Europe and North America. Malgin is listed as playing in three tournaments for CCCP in 1988-89, including the Saskatoon Cup.
