Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Groovy WHA hockey card display boxes and wrappers highlight this offering, with Tony Esposito’s likeness (even though he never played in the WHA(!)), gracing both the 1974-75 box and the 20 wrappers which accompany it. The 10-cent wrappers are not flattened out but rather wrapped around air(!) to look cool indeed laying in the box. It displays marvelously with bright colors and without unsightly tears/creases/flaws. Quite a bit of creasing, along with light fading, is observed on the top flap of a ’75-76 OPC WHA box, with both WHA boxes originally holding 48 packs. Completing the trio is a rather attractive ’76-77 Topps box, with a couple of heavier creases limited to the back panel. The front panel advertises the glossy round-corner inserts via a Bobby Clarke example. Similar to the ’74-75 WHA box, it houses wrappers, 15 of them, folded back to their original card-holding form, for a swell effect when lifting the box top. Oh, that ‘70s material!
