Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

Some beauty NM-or-better cards are discovered while inspecting this 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee offering, the first of the 10-cent-a-pack era, with a minor flaw or two or more affecting others and sending them (mostly) to the VG-EX to EX+ range, rendering an average difficult to assign, with EX possibly appropriate. Gordie Howe’s Mr. Hockey (NNO) card is a NM highlight, with 30-P. Esposito at EX-MT. Tony O’s rookie card has a tiny stain/mark in the upper border and is otherwise EX+, the same as Hull, Parent and Sawchuk. Orr is similar but with blue ink transfer affecting the front edges. The Savard RC (VG), 61-Howe (VG+) and 209-Orr Norris (VG) are lesser-light notables, with an uneven diamond cut to the 212-Orr All-Star card. Checklists are unmarked, with #31 at VG and #132 a notch better at VG+. We do not spot any cards with stamp inserts affixed to their backs, while details of four somewhat scarce variations present can be found on our website.
Additional variations included are the (numbered) 193-Mr. Hockey card (VG+), 226-Vezina Trophy (with Bobby Orr yellow script on the reverse)(EX+), 228-Norris Trophy (with Phil Esposito yellow script on the back)(EX-MT+) and the Esposito double trophy winner card (“205” not on the front)(VG).
