Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Taking over for legendary keeper Georges Vezina after the Canadiens’ mainstay died from tuberculosis, George Hainsworth would guard Montreal’s crease for seven seasons, winning back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the Canadiens in 1930 and 1931. Especially scarce, this attractive 14” George Hainsworth ceramic statue was produced in 1928 by artist A. Doucet, with this information engraved over the lower reverse. Wonderfully depicting the superstar netminder with a polychrome surface and “G Hainsworth” over the base, the original stick is now missing, with numerous chips to the surface visible especially along the 6" x 5" base. The painted surface has also dulled somewhat over time, with the rare display piece presenting beautifully.
