Excitedly awaiting lunchtime during the 1974-75 season when mom would remove the box of Lipton Soup from the cupboard and dispatch of the contents, the real prize valued by collecting youngsters – the box - usually discarded by unsuspecting adults, now became the focal point as each featured the cards of two NHL superstars! This lot feature’s a collection of rarely-seen and highly prized Lipton Soup oversized promotional cards, thought to have been originally used as store displays. At 10” x 14” and produced on thick cardboard with perforation marks visible, examples are present for the four known examples of Bobby Orr, Yvan Cournoyer, Serge Savard and Tony Esposito, with an additional pair of uncatalogued cards for Dave Keon and Borje Salming (misspelt). This is the only collection of 6 Lipton Soup promo cards we have ever offered, with the Keon and Salming examples the first we have seen.
The Orr, Keon and Esposito promos display beautifully with just light surface and corner wear, with surface wrinkles visible over each reverse, with a few very minor surface lines present on the bottom left side of the Orr. Each also sports edge toning over the reverse, with a small stain along the bottom front of the Esposito promo. The Salming and Cournoyer promos show considerable creasing, with each sporting a small edge tear, with a few creases and a separation to the cardboard along the top of the Savard promo.
