Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Epitomizing the vintage game with a slash to the ankle the minute the puck is dropped, Cold Cocos was a silent-era slapstick film released in 1926, and it serves as possibly the first portrayal of hockey on the big screen. Featuring five different Hollywood hockey films, we have a collection of promotional photos totaling 13 and spanning from the 1930s to 1970s. All in the 8” x 10” range, we have photos for King of Hockey (1936), Idol of the Crowds starring John Wayne (2 different from the 1948 re-release), White Lightning (1953, 8 different), Love Story (1970) and Slap Shot (1977). There is also a pair of small theatre schedules, with both advertising Idol of the Crowds – one for the 1937 release, one for 1948. The majority of the photos remain in pleasing condition and sport clean reverses, with the odd example exhibiting heavier surface wear along with the odd crease or corner bend (the Idol of the Crowds photos both show creasing).
