Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Iconic throughout the ten provinces of Canada and well known to hockey adherents south of the border, Maurice Richard was also a draw in France apparently, with the city of Montreal always sharing a kinship through language and culture with the mother country. This exceedingly rare poster announces the Rocket’s presence in the resort area of Chamonix, for participation in an old timers contest at the historic Patinoire de Chamonix. While little information can be found regarding this event, we do know it occurred in the 1960s, with the Saturday, April 1 date listed falling on only 1961 and 1967 during the decade, with the latter most likely. At approx 15” x 23” (visible) and framed to 18 ½” x 26”, the solid green poster feature’s a well executed vintage player, with “Montreal” beneath, along with “avec la participarion de Maurice Richard” (with the participation of Maurice Richard). The admission price of “10 and 8 Francs” appears along the base just above the Chamonix printer “Imprimerie Nouvelle”.
The poster exhibits light surface wear with seven original horizontal fold lines visible, with a few minor blemishes visible at the bottom of the player, with additional heavy wear to the frame. This is the only example of this poster that we have ever handled.
