Fantastic “Canada” wool sweater is an early- to mid-1960s Winnipeg Maroons game-worn alternate captain’s jersey attributed to former NHL defenseman Bill Juzda. After winning the Stanley Cup twice with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1949 and 1951, the bruising blueliner kept active playing with the Maroons from the mid-1950s until 1962-63, mainly joining them for Allan Cup playoffs. Exquisite crest on the front features a maple leaf of green twill on burgundy felt, with Canada spelled out in sewn-on white felt and leaf veins in white thread. Colorful Winnipeg crossed flags chenille patch on the left sleeve features the Union Jack and Canadian Red Ensign. We count four team repairs on this tie-neck classic with color bleeding around the neck, front tail and sleeves.
Juzda’s last season playing with the team was in 1962-63 where he is listed as a player/coach and wearing No. 2.
There are a few holes throughout the jersey that do not diminish its display.
