Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Great lot of 5 vintage hockey sweaters features a pair dating back to World War II and earlier, and 3 knit jerseys from the 1960s and 1970s. The oldest is a thin-knit, purple-and-red creation dating from the 1920s-'30s with a purple-on-red felt "NKM" patch sewn on the front. The back has a small stitch job where a number may have once risen up to. The long red cuffs and red neckline have been preserved in remarkable and unstretched condition. A few small holes and light sweat-staining at the armpits are to note on this size 38-long. A World War II-era blue-and-yellow sweater has a "C" on the front and a "6" on the back, both in yellow felt stitched on a blue felt circle. With thick yellow shoulders and cuffs, this vintage wool has an "Albion Knitted Outerwear - Albion Knitting Co. Ltd - Peterborough, Ont." tag sewn in the inner right seam. Some darned repairs were done with black thread and include three on the back and three at the right elbow. Half a dozen small holes on the front are to mention but detract little from the awesomeness of this approximately size 40 relic which has survived in outstanding condition. Rounding out the lot is a cool trio of jerseys, including a maroon-and-white knit with "11" sewn on the front and back, and a tag in the middle of the inner front hem that reads "Horace Partridge Athletic Goods - 44". Game use includes a burn and two resulting small holes on the left elbow and a dime-size stitch job on the right. A two-inch run (right sleeve) and a few stains in the white stripes (mostly on the back) are also to mention. Two similar-size tie-neck style jerseys have felt numbers sewn on the back and different felt crests on the front. The one with "BBC" has evidence of a similar-size circular patch having been removed from the right breast nearby, while a "CBI" patch is on the other. Cotton knit jerseys feature nice interior and exterior pilling and are in splendid hole-free excellent condition.
