Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

The battle-weary Toronto Maple Leafs fans of the 1970s could only rely on one constant: the playmaking of team-leading star center Darryl Sittler. Hall-of-Fame centerman Darryl Sittler wore this blue knit sweater during his final season in Toronto. "Sittler" crosses the back shoulder above the "27" in white tackle-twill. Darryl's "C" sits up on the right breast, returned to him after a brief stint in around 1980 when he gave up the team's leadership role over problems with management. Tagged in the neck by Maska Ultrafil with their company logo sewn onto the back hem. Darryl did not play a full season in 1981-82 as he was packed off to the Philadelphia Flyers 38 games into the campaign, yet the shirt shows nice wear with light staining, lots of washed out marks and scuffs and at least 8 team repairs. A peek inside reveals areas of significant pilling.
