Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

As the decade that was the 1970s reached its mid point, Montreal Canadiens team captain Henri Richard passed on his leadership duties to future Hall-of-Famer Yvan Cournoyer. Yvan was nicknamed "The Roadrunner" due to his small size and blazing speed, which he credited to longer blades on his skates. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982. This uniform dates to 1974-75 and this was the last season of the tie-neck style durene in Montreal. The captain's "C" sits up on the left breast above that classic tackle-twill "CH" crest. Tagging in the neck is from Wilson and the size "48" is noted in vintage ballpoint ink. The pre-name-on-back knit has the two-layer number "12" on the back and arms and sports a garter-style fightstrap in the tail. Ten terrific team repairs can be found on the left arm and we spot about the same number over of the opposite sleeve. Add these to at least 12 more repairs on the front and you have the story of the game wear. Dozens of black stick marks appear on the lower front with more scuffs and marks on the sleeves. A well-worn example from this diminutive goal-scorer.
