"Going to the WHA was not one bit about money," Bobby Hull once recalled in an interview with Sports Illustrated. Still, when the WHA made an offer of a quarter million dollars a year, plus a one-million-dollar signing bonus, Hull thought the offer was bogus. "I thought it was a joke," said Hull. "I pretended to go along with it, just to scare Chicago. Then my agent, Harvey Weinberg, said, 'Bobby, these guys are serious.'" When the smoke cleared, the final contract with the World Hockey Association's Winnipeg Jets totaled $1.75 million. Incredible inaugural season uniform worn by Hall-of-Famer Bobby Hull while with the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association is a durene knit made by Maska. The vintage black and gold Maska tag is sewn in the neck and the chain-stitched "Jets" crest sewn onto the chest, a style that was only used for the team's first season. Two-tone tackle twill number "9" on each sleeve and also on the back and the jersey sports a nifty white nameplate with "Hull" chain-stitched on in red. The jersey displays great game wear with a few stick marks, some board burns, small areas of light staining, a large swipe of red board paint transfer at the lower left side and five fantastic team repairs. Six or seven more repairs can be found inside the jersey, holding the hem together. This one has no visible signs of alterations or modifications to the numbers on sleeves and back, to the nameplate or to the team crest. Nice pilling inside and out. A rare and highly-sought-after style from the dawn of a storied and long-defunct professional league. The important uniform was gifted by Bobby Hull to our consigner's father-in-law prior to 1978. It comes with a copy of a letter of provenance signed by Hull and a letter of provenance from the consigner and a digital image of a possible photo-match!
