Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
A member of the Detroit Red Wings 1937 Stanley Cup championship squad, John Gallagher spent parts of 7 seasons in the NHL beginning with the Montreal Maroons, later seeing action with both the Red Wings and Americans. We have a team-signed stick used by the Kenora native during the 1932-33 season with Detroit - a campaign that first witnessed 6 games with the Maroons before moving on to Detroit, where he played in 35 contests. Hailing from the inaugural Detroit season as the “Red Wings”, the rare McNiece & Orchard Extra Special model feature’s legible stamps, with “Gallagher” handwritten over the upper shaft. Approx 22 have signed one side of the shaft including Gallagher, along with HOFers George Hay, Ebbie Goodfellow and Herbie Lewis. A letter of provenance will accompany.
With the original tape over the knob, tape has been removed from the toe of the blade, with black electrical tape added at some point over the heel section. The original striping accent remains intact, with the blade decorated with attractive black ink graphics of “Detroit Red Wings 1932-33”. The signatures all appear heavily faded, with many either illegible or hard to decipher, with the additional signers to include Frank Carson, Eddie Wiseman, Doug Young, Walter Buswell, trainer Honey Walker, what appears to be Larry Aurie, and others.
