Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Transitioning from the Q to the AHL after winning the Guy Lafleur Trophy as Playoff MVP in 1991, Felix Potvin lost only 10 of his 34 contests with the St. John's Maple Leafs, and was presented with the offered award plaques at the conclusion of the 1991-92 AHL season. Included, we have the Aldege (Baz) Bastien Memorial Award – presented to the best goaltender as chosen by AHL media and players, along with the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award - presented to the player deemed to be the league’s best rookie. First, the Bastien award is 10” x 14”, with the grooved wooden plaque sporting an affixed AHL medallion and laurel wreath, with an engraved plate beneath that states “Aldege Baz Bastien Award – Felix Potvin – St Johns Maple Leafs”. The Garrett award is 12” x 15”, with the beveled-edge wooden plaque sporting an affixed scroll with engraved plate, with the text exclaiming “Dudley Red Garrett Award - Felix Potvin – St Johns Maple Leafs”. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Felix Potvin will accompany.
Both awards show wear from age and display beautifully, with light surface wear including the odd small blemish or scratch to the engraved plates, with a pair of small separations along wooden seams on the Garrett award – with the plaque remaining completely solid.
