Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
A member of the Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup championship squad in 1942, defenceman Ernie Dickens spent parts of six seasons in the NHL, with additional appearances for the AHL’s Pittsburgh Hornets and the PCHL’s Calgary Stampeders. We have a pair of Leafs documents pertaining to Dickens, with one signed by legendary HOF Builder Conn Smythe, the other, by fellow HOFer Happy Day. Included, we have a Standard Player’s Contract for 1945-46, with an agreed-upon salary of $3400.00 (just over $47,000.00 in 2018 dollars), with both Dickens and Day signing in fountain pen, with a secretarial signature of then-NHL President Red Dutton also present. The second document is an agreement memorandum relating to training camp and dated Oct 3rd 1939, with both Dickens and Conn Smythe signing in fountain pen. The signatures all display wonderfully, with just light wear to each document including toning, along with a rust mark from a former attached paper clip on the agreement memorandum.
