Preceding the famous Sutter brothers by nearly half a century, the Boucher family contributed four brothers to the NHL, with George and Frank both carving out HOF careers throughout the 1920s. George would go on to single-season coaching stints with the Maroons (1930-31), Senators (1933-34), Eagles (1934-35) and Boston Bruins (1949-50). Hailing from Buck’s time at the helm of the Bruins bench, we have a Special Border Permit that was issued to allow Boucher to travel across the border untethered. At roughly 3 ¾” x 5 ½” and accompanied by a 5 ½” x 8 ½” cover letter signed by a Foreign Exchange Control Board employee, the “Aug 23/49” dated card lists Boucher as coach of the “Boston Professional Hockey Assoc.”, with the 1950 expiry date also listed. Boucher has signed over the permit holder’s section in dark ink, and the autograph displays well with no issues.
Elected to the HOF in 1960, Boucher passed that same year, leaving an especially small supply of quality signatures. The card exhibits light handling wear with a pair of fold lines, while the cover letter shows creasing and toning along with the original fold lines.
