Wayne Gretzky’s wood Hespeler 5500 stick from the 1997-98 season is a treat! From the black foam “Jack the Gripper" at the knob end to the aged baby powder applied to the sticky bulldog blade tape, this stick has everything we have come to expect in a great Gretzky gamer. Factory-stamped “Gretzky” with 110-115 Flex markings on the front of the shaft and a partial “55” batch code on the back. Wayne has left a neat thin marker signature down on the shaft with the added “99” numerals. Game wear includes a dozen stick slashes along the shaft with some contact marks on the blade and tape job. This stick has been specially customized with a code written on the butt end and a small hologram sticker added by our consignor.
Wayne Gretzky’s second year in New York saw him post a 23-goal performance, adding another 63 assists for a grand total of 90 regular season points. Wayne used the Hespeler 5500 stick and wore Hespeler gloves in 1997-98 to promote the company he had recently purchased in partnership with a Minnesota-based firm.
