Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Regarded my many as the top centerman during the second half of the Original Six era, Stan Mikita helped popularize – along with Bobby Hull – the use of curved blades, with the HOFer also remembered as one of the first player’s to regularly don a helmet during game play. We have a stick used by the two-time Hart Trophy winner during the mid-1960s, with this example a desirable “banana hook”. A Northland Custom Pro model, “Mikita” appears over the upper shaft, with stamps from supplier Gunzo’s gracing each side. With the tape removed from the blade and the outline visible (appears very similar to other Mikita examples), the handle has a black wrap with pronounced knob, with this a possibly earlier variation to the later handle wraps seen on his sticks.
Moderate to heavier use is apparent on the desirable “Glass Fused” lumber, with considerable wear to the underside of the blade, with additional marks to the shaft along with a few tiny areas of red paint transfer. The joint atop the heel section is also cracked and just slightly separated, with the stick remaining completely solid.
