Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

With Ken Dryden and Bernie Parent sidelined by injuries, the goaltending position on Team Canada 1976 was up for grabs going into the inaugural Canada Cup. Gerry Cheevers and Glenn "Chico" Resch were in the mix though it was the Los Angeles Kings' Rogatien Vachon who ultimately made the No. 1 job all his own. Rogie took tournament goaltending all-star honors with a 1.39 goals-against-average and two shutouts, holding Canada's opponents to 10 goals in 7 games. This is the championship trophy which was presented to Vachon after Canada defeated Czechoslovakia in the finals. "Rogie Vachon" Canada Cup 1976" is engraved on a gold-colored metal plaque at the base. As is common with these awards, the trophy shows light bulging and cracking with some paint loss, but overall it remains a marvellous memento won by what many feel is the greatest team ever assembled by Canada. Rogatien Vachon's signed letter of authenticity accompanies this 12" tall personal trophy which commemorates one of Canada's greatest international hockey triumphs.
