Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
A rarely seen image, this scarce and highly desirable postcard pictures the famous Renfrew Creamery Kings - known to all contemporaries far and wide as the Millionaires due to their elaborate salaries. Featuring the 1908-09 squad, depicted in their maroon and white team sweaters are Bert Lindsay, Didier Pitre, Bobby Rowe, Jack MacDonald and others. Club owner Ambrose O'Brien would help found the NHA the following season, with the Millionaires finishing in third place overall, with team star and HOFer Newsy Lalonde leading the fledgling league in scoring. Graded "A" for authentic by SGC, the front remains clean with a sharp image, with pencil writing to the postal reverse. There is also a few marks/scratches to the SGC holder.
