A product of Bowling Green State University who got his first taste of pro hockey with the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA, Mike Luit would go on to play 664 National Hockey League games over the course of 13-years with St. Louis, Hartford and Washington. Named to the NHL All-Star Game in 1981 and spending a total of six (6) years guarding the pipes for the Hartford Whalers, offered here is this stick used by Luit during the 1987-88 season that is attributed to have been used by him during his shutout performance against the Montreal Canadiens on November 11th, 1987 that resulted in 24 saves and a 0-0 tie. A Louisville made wooden twig with "Luit" stamped over the shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of white over the handle/knob and black around the blade. Having had a gold coloured metal plaque with details about the game the stick is said to have been used in added over the forehand side of the lower shaft, a stamp reading "Property of Hartford Whalers Hockey Archives" is found on the opposite side of the same area while a notation reading "28 saves" is penciled over the topside of lower shaft as well, despite box scores listing Luit as making 24 saves instead. Exhibiting good game-wear throughout, puck marks are observed over both sides of the paddle while additional marks are seen over both sides of the blade tape as well. Also displaying red post paint transfer marks on the backhand side of the paddle and upper shaft, crack/chips/dents caused by shots are present on the top edge of the paddle as well as the top edge of the heel.
