Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Enjoying a complete lifetime in hockey, Max McNab would do it all during his career, everything from winning a Stanley Cup as a player in the National Hockey League to serving as Vice President of Hockey Operations with the New Jersey Devils. Also having served as a long-time coach in the old Western Hockey League as well as General Manager of the NHL's Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils along with Team Canada at the 1982 IIHF World Championships, offered here is this collection of memorabilia from McNab's days as a bench boss in the old Western Hockey League with the San Fransisco Seals and Vancouver Canucks. Paced by a wristwatch made by Miller that was presented to McNab during the 1962-63 season of play, the timepiece features a black dial with gold coloured accented and a two-tone gold and silver coloured bracelet. Engraved over the reverse with "Canucks - 1962-63 - Max McNab" the watch does not seem to be in working order and shows wear from use such as scratches over the face. Additionally, a 9" x 7" image of McNab wearing what seems to be at least a similar watch is also included, with a stamp over the reverse reading "Bill Cunningham - Province Photo". For the rest of the lot, included is a program from a September 29th, 1963 exhibition game between the WHL All-Stars and the Toronto Maple Leafs that shows moderate wear throughout but remains complete, a March 16th, 1965 program between the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Blades that remains complete and shows moderate wear throughout including creasing and has a pen notation reading "March 17th, 1965" over the cover, which is one day after the game according to the schedule on the interior, a 1961-62 AHL Yearbook that shows light-to-moderate wear throughout and a 1962-63 AHL Yearbook that shows light wear throughout. Finally, also included is an 8" x 10" image of McNab during the 1961-62 season when he served as coach and GM of the San Francisco Seals that shows wear via small amounts of paper loss plus a small tear to the bottom left corner and a a couple of small creases while being stamped on the reverse with "Photographer - Ken McLaughlin". Additionally, also included is a group of six (6) press photos taken of McNab as a member of the Indianapolis Capitals in 1946-47 during a game against the Cleveland Barons. All the images are action shots with one also showing Johnny Bower in goal for Cleveland. All in overall good condition though some show things like penned notations, creases, dents, toning and small tears, all have glue residue on the reverses as well as a stamp reading "Photo By Robert Lavelle Indianapolis News". A McNab Family LOA will accompany the piece.
