Jean Beliveau Foundation Auction

Although their Stanley Cup reign had ended a season earlier, the Montreal Canadiens still iced a potent lineup in 1980-81, most of the nucleus of the late-1970s dynasty accounting for 45 wins and 103 points, four better than both the Sabres and Kings atop the Wales Conference standings. The club’s 22nd Prince of Wales Trophy was thus secured, with members of the team receiving personal miniatures like this one, presented to team vice-president Jean Beliveau. The legend’s name and that of the trophy appear on a plaque applied to one side of the 2-inch high wooden base, with a somewhat misleading “NHL Champions - Montreal Canadiens 1980-81” engraved on one on the opposite side. Four hockey sticks support a silver-plated cup with removable lid, combining to help give the trophy a height of close to 13”, the leaves atop the cover broken off over the years. Otherwise in excellent condition with tarnish blemishes, the souvenir was recently obtained from Helene Beliveau and will come with her father’s signed letter of authenticity. Go Habs Go!
