Annihilating all competition, the Montreal Canadiens finished over 50 points ahead of second place Detroit in the Norris Division at the conclusion of the 1977-78 NHL regular season. The Habs would lose a mere three playoff contests en route to their third consecutive Stanley Cup championship, with longtime Canadiens leader Jean Beliveau serving as the Canadiens Vice-President. This Prince of Wales trophy was presented to Mr Beliveau for the Canadiens’ status as the 1977-78 Wales Conference regular season champions. At 13” in height, four silver-plated hockey sticks rise up from a 2 ½” wooden base to support a cup with an affixed coat of arms and removable lid. A plaque affixed over the front of the wooden base states, “Prince of Wales Trophy”, with “Jean Beliveau” engraved beneath, with a second plaque over the reverse sporting, "NHL Champions – Montreal Canadiens – 1977-78". Originally from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Jean Beliveau will accompany.
There are a few small areas of surface loss to mention including over the mounted coat of arms and near the base, with the monumental trophy in otherwise gorgeous condition.
