Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
One of the greatest goaltenders during the Original Six era, Jacques Plante spent most of the 1950s and early-1960s in a Habs sweater, where he produced some amazing numbers with his average constantly under 2-goals-a-game. We have a highly desirable stick used by the HOFer during the earlier part of his career. A CCM Pattern Made Pro model, “Custom made for Plante” appears on the shaft, with a handwritten and underlined “P” directly beneath along with a stamp from Habs store supplier Raymond Hardware Ltd. With the original black tape in place on the blade and knob, we should note that Plante only used black tape on his knob earlier-on in his career, including during his Vezina Trophy and Stanley Cup winning season in 1955-56. Great game-use is apparent, with red paint transfer on the back of the shaft along with skate blade cuts to the taped section of blade. The blade also exhibits a few cracks beneath the tape, but remains fairly solid.
