Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Desirable piece for Jacques Plante and contract enthusiasts, this detailed, one-page NHL “Standard Player’s Contract” is Plante’s last agreement with the Canadiens and called for “The Snake” to receive $20,000 for the 1962-63 season. A quick check in the records books reveals that Plante did not pick up the $500 bonuses offered for the Habs finishing in first place (they finished third, three points back of Toronto) or for winning the first round of the playoffs. NHL president Clarence Campbell’s fountain pen signature grace’s the front, while over the reverse one-above-the-other, are the ballpoint signatures of Habs GM Frank Selke along with that marvelous goaltending innovator and HOFer, Jacques Plante. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
The contract survives in wonderful condition, with just some fairly heavy toning in spots including along a few edges. The signatures also display well and remain dark with no issues.
