Marvelous memento recalls the Montreal Canadiens’ potent dynasty of the late-1970s and the important contributions of Hall of Fame defenceman Guy Lapointe. Guy was coming off three consecutive impressive 20-or-more-goal seasons when the ‘77-78 season began, but injuries forced him to miss 31 games, denying him a chance at a fourth, although he still fired 13 goals. Paced by Guy Lafleur’s career-high 60 goals and third scoring title, the Canadiens posted a 59-10-11 record for 129 points, and then come playoff time claimed their third straight Cup title, taking out Detroit in five games, sweeping Toronto and beating the Bruins in six. This Stanley Cup championship trophy was presented to Lapointe for his status as a 1978 Stanley Cup champion. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with green felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three rows beneath the team executives, with “Le Club de Hockey Canadien” and “1977-78” engraved above. Originating from Guy Lapointe’s personal collection, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Sporting heavy surface wear and oxidation throughout, no dents are visible, with a few very small and minor chips along edges of the wooden base.
