Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

Hosted by Prague, the 1938 IIHF World Championships marked the 30th anniversary of the event, with Great Britain making the final along with the Sudbury Wolves who were representing Canada. Taking place on Feb 20th, Sudbury would be too much to handle for the Brits, securing a 3-1 victory along with the nation’s 10th World Championship. We have a gold medal from the event, presented to Wolves team member Gordon Bruce, along with a framed photo of the team at the tournament. At approx. 2 ¼” x 2 ½”, the especially attractive medal features an embossed player in action, with “Praha 1938” on front, and "World and European Ice Hockey Championship", number I, and "World Champion" (translated from Czech) on the reverse. "Mincovna Kremnica" also appears on one edge, with "bronz" and "pozlaceno" (gold-plated bronze) on another. Originally obtained from the Bruce family, documents will be included.
With just a bit of wear to the reverse, the vintage medal survives in astounding high-grade, and displays marvelously. The Wolves team photo is roughly 4 ½” x 6 ½" and secured to a matte, framed to full dimensions of approx. 7 ¾” x 9 ¾”, with just light wear to the photo exhibited.
