Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A veteran of 128 National Hockey League games as a member of the Detroit Red Wings between between 1947-48 and 1950-51, Max McNab would register a total of sixteen (16) goals and nineteen (19) assists for thirty-five (35) total points while also playing in another twenty-five (25) playoff games over that period as well. A Stanley Cup champion with the Red Wings in 1950 after knocking off the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals, McNab would be traded by Detroit to the Chicago Black Hawks before the start of the 1951-52 season but never play for the team as back surgery kept him out of action the entire year and he then joined the New Westminster Royals of the Western Hockey League, where he played for seven seasons, retiring in 1959. Offered here, and hailing from McNab's personal collection, we present this get well wishes card sent to McNab by the Black Hawks that has been signed by approximately seventeen (17) members of the 1951-52 Chicago squad. A fold out offering measuring out to full dimensions of roughly 5" x 28", imagery of animals making up a totem pole is found throughout along with get well sentiments. Remaining in good condition and retaining beautiful colours, the piece shows fold lines as well as some toning and small creases but it free from any rips/tears. Signed by the likes of HOFers Harry Lumley, Ebbie Goodfellow, Bill Mosienko, Bill Gadsby and Jack Stewart, others that have signed include; McFadden, Peters, Dewsbury, Raglan, Guidolin, Horeck, Hrymnak, Roberts, Fogolin, Finney, Gee and one other, with all the signatures signed in black ballpoint pen that displays well despite their age though it is worth mentioning that a couple of the autographs do show light smearing. A McNab Family LOA will accompany the piece.
