Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Hailing from just his sophomore NHL season in 1980-81, a campaign that witnessed a 2-points-per-game + average with an amazing 164 points netted in 80 games, we have a stick used by the always phenomenal Wayne Gretzky. Originating from the incomparable collection of Shawn Chaulk, the Titan TPM model stick in familiar solid white with red identifiers has “W. Gretzky” stamped especially faint in light red along with “99” handwritten over the upper shaft, with a date code in matching red along the underside of “Jan 12 1981”. The original and soiled white tape remains over the handle and knob, while the blade tape has been removed at some point, with the definite outline of the full tape job completely noticeable. “WG” is also visible, handwritten along the underside at the heel. Used during the first season Gretzky was awarded both the Hart Memorial and Art Ross Trophies, this example is special. A signed LOA from Shawn Chaulk will accompany, along with a second LOA from Joe Esposito.
Tremendous game use is immediately apparent, with numerous black puck marks littering the blade and lower shaft, along with scratches, indentations and wear to the surface finish. There are also streaks of both blue and red paint transfer over the lower shaft, with a few additional spots of red paint transfer beneath the handle.
