A serious collection with many stand-alone examples, we have the ultimate Toronto Maple Leafs signed photo collection, with 53 total signed photos, including 13 from HOFers, plus an additional 51 photos! Loaded with magnificent specimens, we have an impressive gathering of Leafs photos, with most either 6 ½” x 8 ½” or 8” x 10”, with the smaller examples mounted to 8” x 10” backings. HOF signers include Horton, Broda, Primeau, Drillon, Lumley (2), Duff, Pilote, Apps, Flaman, Watson, Pratt and Max Bentley. A number of the photos are personalized to Leafs trainer Murray “Torchy” Schell (including the Horton), adding important provenance, with other signers to include James, Regan, Baun, Olmstead, Klukay, Rollins, Gardner and more. The additional 51 unsigned photos include team-issued and media examples, with a number of wonderful Leafs images.
The majority of the photos have been signed in ballpoint with no modern markers or sharpies, with the photos themselves showing moderate wear with the odd crease or dinged corner along with some toning. The Horton is made out to “Torchy”, with “Best Wishes” added, with the signature a wonderful bold example, while the Broda has also been made out to Torchy, with the full signature of “Walter ‘Turk’ Broda” utilized. Other signed photos in the collection include examples from Gamble, Migay, Douglas, Nesterenko, Sloan, Aldcorn, Balfour, Bailey, Wilson, Nevin, Jeffrey, McKenney, Walton, Solinger, Litzenberger, Mikol, Douglas, Palmateer, Jones, Maloney, McKechnie, Lewicki, Thomson, Lynn, Mortson, Mackell, Sid Smith, Brian Conacher and a few others. We even have a signed photo from 1960s Leafs trainer Bob Haggart. Other highlights within the collection include a candid dressing room shot of Frank Mahovlich signing for a youngster, a second dressing room shot showing the Leafs jerseys hanging with pride and a photo that shows an injured George Armstrong being helped by the trainer. Some of the unsigned vintage player photos include examples of Bill Barilko, Frank McCool and Sweeney Schriner.
