Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
The final season that witnessed “magnificent” totals, 1996-97 would be Mario Lemieux’s last year before making his return to the Penguins in 2000, with his 122 points scored - including 50 goals - and the Art Ross Trophy earned to cap one of his greatest years. We have a signed stick used that very season by Lemieux, with this example photo-matched – something rarely occurring with sticks. A preferred KOHO Revolution model with “Lemieux” stamped-on, a factory code appears along the underside, with the stick retaining its original black tape over both the blade and handle. Large marks are visible over the lower shaft just above the heel section, with wear to the blade. The graphics also show additional wear, with the stick remaining completely solid. Mario has added a black marker signature over the lower shaft, with an LOA to accompany from Steiner.
Getty Image #578782684 from Jan 1997 has been matched to marks/scrapes in both "KOHO" logos on one side of the side, and to the black diagonal mark in the lower portion of the shaft.
