Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
The recipient of the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship in 1971, Johnny Bucyk helped propel his Bruins to the quarter-finals as East Divisions champions, with an impressive regular season record of 57-14-7. This Prince of Wales trophy originates from Bucyk’s personal collection and was awarded to the HOFer for the Bruins first place finish during the regular season in 1970-71. At 13” tall, the silver-plated and wooden miniature replica of the Prince of Wales Trophy displays beautifully, with "HRH Prince of Wales Trophy” and “John Bucyk” engraved on a detailed plaque on the front side of the 2 wooden base, with “NHL Champions Winners 1970 71 Boston Bruins” on the reverse.
We should note that the trophy exhibits wear to the finish in spots, along with glue residue within the top of the bowl. A single leaf point has also broken off the removable lid. There are also a few small scratches along the top of the wooden base.
