Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017

The 1996 season marked the debut of Jacques Villeneuve in Formula 1. After 2 years of racing CART in North America, Jacques signed on with Frank Williams and the powerful Williams-Renault F-1 team. Jacques made it very clear from the start he was there to win. He started the season with a pole position in the Australian GP and went on to score 4 wins, 2 more pole positions, 11 top three’s, 6 fastest race laps and second overall in the F-1 Championship.
This Bell M3 helmet was painted by Bell SPORTS Europe and is tagged R-13. We believe the helmet is photo-matched to an image of Jacques in his book “Villeneuve – My first season in Formula 1”, page 210. It is noted that the image is from the Japanese GP were Jacques started on pole, turned in the fastest lap of the race but unfortunately he had a wheel issue during the race and retired after only 36 laps. The helmet still carries all of the Rothmans logos and the race radio remains fully intact. The drink tube was drilled out and the upper vents have been covered with tape to reduce airflow into the helmet. The visor of the helmet is signed by Villeneuve. The helmet shows light but obvious use and would make a great addition to any racing collection.
Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “J.V. R-13 1996” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
