All-Star defenseman Bill White’s 1973-74 Chicago Black Hawks game-worn alternate captain’s playoff jersey is a durene affair with the “74 PO” tag sewn inside the right front hem and a total of 17 team repairs. The No. 2 jersey was worn originally in the 1974 playoffs and then during the 1974-75 regular season by White , who began wearing No. 2 for the Black Hawks in 1969-70 (21 games) right up to his last season in 1975-76. The Wilson size 50 tagging in the neck is loose and very frayed, and the dual garter-style fight strap has been cut out and the outline remains on the left breast of the removed alternate captain’s “A”.
There are three team repairs on the front tail, two on the left shoulder, nine on the left sleeve, and three on the right sleeve. There are tears to the edges of the elaborate team crest on the front, in the mouth, on the top and bottom edge and between the far right feathers, where some stitching has let go. There are fabric runs and unrepaired holes on the sleeves, and unrepaired holes on the upper left breast near the shoulder and sleeve seams. There are a few black marks and a bit of red paint transfer on the right front hem.
There is also evidence of a short former nameplate, with nameplates mandated for television use and later removed. It is most likely the jersey was recycled down to a farm team, as was typical for Black Hawks jerseys from this period.
