Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Issued in wax packs during the season that saw Tony Esposito post a modern day record 15 shutouts to help earn him the Calder Trophy as the NHL's rookie-of-the-year were Tony O's 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee rookie cards, with not one but two offered here. Both are in similar condition, with the best earning NM-MT 8 status at PSA and the other graded 7.5 NM+ by KSA, the latter with an image left of center. Joining the desirable duo is a '71-72 Topps #110 card which is slabbed EX-MT 6 by PSA. The folks at O-Pee-Chee got it correct on the back of Tony's rookie card, the write-up ending "This rookie goaltender appears to be on the threshold of a brilliant career in the NHL". The brilliant career included 15 seasons in a Blackhawks uniform, 423 regular season wins, 76 of them via shutout, followed by induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
