Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
A formidable pre-war collectible is this coaster, originally available to consumers of one of O’Keefe’s Beverages “Big 4” soft drinks and which now rests encapsulated, earning the second highest mark ever awarded a King Clancy coaster by PSA. Its VG-EX 4 grade places it second only to one slabbed EX+ 5.5, with the total of just eight such Clancy pieces ever having been encapsulated by PSA informing of their scarcity. The text accompanying the artwork of Lou Skuce informs that King Clancy’s Stanley Cup win with Toronto in 1931-32 was the fourth time that he had figured on a championship team, (the previous three were with his hometown Ottawa Senators), and that his dad was one of Canada’s premier rugby players. The Leafs paying $35,000 to get the younger Clancy is also mentioned. What a piece to add to an important Clancy/Leafs/pre-war shrine!
