Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Hall of Fame goalie Billy Smith saw the New York Islanders through from their extremely humble beginnings as an NHL doormat expansion team to one of the league’s greatest Stanley Cup dynasties, all in the space of a decade. Selected from the L.A. Kings in the 1972 expansion draft, Battlin’ Billy brought his zealous streak of competitiveness to Long Island as the Islanders built themselves up over the years. Smith’s circa 1976-77 Islanders game-worn goalie pants show all kinds of evidence of the hard work that Billy put in as the Islanders rose from the depths and began to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Cooper tagging is sewn on the bottom of the stripes on the outer side of each leg. Comes with Billy Smith’s signed LOA.
