Representing the US on a number of occasions on the international stage, Al Montoya first honed his skills at the University of Michigan, with three successful seasons including his last where he posted an impressive 30-7-3 record. We have the Chicago native’s UofM Wolverines helmet worn in 2002-03, including in the NCAA Frozen Four in April, and it’s been signed and photo-matched. Resplendent in Wolverine navy and yellow, “Michigan” appears over the forehead, with examples of the trademark “M” covering each side and the bottom. The back headpiece has “Montoya” along with “35” and an American flag decal, with stickers from maker Warwick along with the artist Ray Bishop affixed to the interior. Montoya has signed across the top left section in gold along with a personalization, with some smudging to the signature itself.
Game-use on the attractive headgear includes scratches and marks, with chipping to the surface around the chin section and on the top, with a few other example including along edges. Additional handwritten details along the interior include “Alvaro Montoya” and “Univ of Mich 2002-03”. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #52351219 from Jan 1st 2004 has been matched to the 3 chips on the chin of the helmet. Also included we have a carrying bag for the helmet along with a pair of signed 8” x 10” photos picturing Montoya in the helmet, including one example with Michigan, the other, playing for the US, with the signature on the Michigan photo smudged.
