Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
After coming out of nowhere, so to speak, to heroically backstop the Montreal Canadiens to the franchise’s 23rd Stanley Cup championship in the spring of 1986, Patrick Roy likely seemed like an appropriate/obvious choice to the deciders at O-Pee-Chee to appear on the company’s ’86-87 hockey card display boxes. With seemingly never enough supply to meet demand, the pictured Roy rookie card is the likes of which you’ll be hoping for if you decide to go searching through some or all of the 48 packs contained within. They’re seven-card affairs and have been guaranteed as not having been searched by unopen specialist Baseball Card Exchange. BBCE’s shrink-wrap surrounds the box and affixed to the underside are the company’s stickers and certification number. Mario Lemieux second-year cards are also possible, while guaranteed is a Mario box bottom card, joined by those of McDonald, Nicholls and Ridley, with an image of the second-year Mario on a side panel – cool. Only light handling wear is to note, most of it on the box bottom where peripheral wear and creasing is spotted, along with a ding to the corner of the Nicholls card. Never mind it, think of Roy or Wah or Roo-ah...and pronounce it any way you like!
