Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
The images of three legendary Toronto Maple Leafs' players are featured on these scarce and desirable coasters, part of a unique issue which pays tribute to the 1931-32 Stanley Cup champion Leafs, who swept the Rangers (3-0) in the finals. With the texture of a blotter and indeed referred to as blotters by some, they were available from O'Keefe's Beverages Limited and include splendid sketches by cartoon artist Lou Skuce. King Clancy, Busher Jackson and Red Horner examples have all been graded GOOD 2 by PSA and display much better than traditional 2s, with no unsightly creases, rather paper loss at two of the tips the major grade-lowering flaws. The numbers match the players' uniform numbers, the pieces measuring 5-1/4" from tip to tip. Fascinating, informative and entertaining, with "O'Keefe's Big 4" on the backs being the name of the line of soft drinks with which the coasters were available. Definite prerequisites to an important Maple Leafs/pre-war collection!
